RIP - Mrs Hamill

6th May 2025
We are saddened to share the sad news of the passing of Mrs Anna Hamill, who was a beloved Primary 1 and 2 teacher at St. Brigid’s Altamuskin from 1968 until her retirement in 1997.

For 29 years, Mrs Hamill was a constant and comforting presence in our school—a guiding light for the youngest members of our community as they began their educational journey.

Fondly known as the 'Mother Hen' of St. Brigid’s, Mrs Hamill was so much more than a teacher. She was a mentor, a role model, and a second mother to generations of children. In addition to her teaching role, Anna also took needlework for the girls, sharing her skill of sewing with care and enthusiasm. With her gentle guidance, unwavering patience, and warm heart, she nurtured not only minds but also spirits. Her classroom was a place of kindness, curiosity and joy, where children felt safe, loved and inspired to learn.

Mrs Hamill deep connection to our school extended beyond her own career. Her children were pupils here, and her love of teaching lives on through her family. Most recently, we were privileged to have her granddaughter Orla complete her final teaching placement with us—an experience that beautifully reflected the enduring legacy Anna has left behind.

We offer our deepest sympathies to Anna’s children, grandchildren, sisters and extended family. Her impact on our school and community is immeasurable and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
May her gentle soul rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so generously gave.

From all within the St. Brigid’s Altamuskin School Community.
