Altamuskin Cup Delivers a Memorable Day at Cardinal MacRory Park
The spirit of school football was alive and well today as eight primary schools gathered at Cardinal MacRory Park for the much-loved Altamuskin Cup. With sunshine overhead and plenty of excitement on the pitch, the day proved once again why this tournament is such a highlight for the participating schools.
The competition began with two groups of four. Group One featured St. Macartan’s, Clogher, St. Patrick’s, Aughadarragh, St. Brigid’s, Altamuskin, and Derrylatinee St. Francis. Derrylatinee, coached by Mr. Canavan, looked well-prepared and focused, topping the group with some excellent performances — a reflection of the hard work being put in behind the scenes.
Group Two saw St. Mary’s, Ballygawley, St. Oliver Plunkett, Beragh, St. Malachy’s, Glencull, and Roscavey battle it out. Beragh emerged top of the group after a strong showing, with Glencull claiming the runner-up spot.
In the Pauline Mullin Cup semi-finals, the hosts Altamuskin were defeated by an experienced Roscavey team while Ballygawley saw off Aughadarragh. The final was an exciting affair, but Ballygawley found an extra gear in the second half to take home the silverware.
Over in the Mairead Mullin Cup, Glencull produced a superb team display to overcome group winners Derrylatinee, while Beragh booked their place in the final with victory over Clogher. The final was a thrilling, end-to-end contest, with Beragh clinching victory with a last-kick free — a dramatic end to a fantastic game.
A special moment came when the Mullin families were on hand to present the cups named in honour of Pauline and Mairead Mullin. Their involvement reminds everyone that this day is about more than football.
The Player of the Day trophy, presented in memory of Shaun Conroy, was awarded to Eoghan McCann of Ballygawley for his outstanding performances. Two of Shaun’s sons, Brian and Darragh, presented the award.
As always, the Altamuskin community went above and beyond — ensuring all teams, coaches and supporters were warmly welcomed and well looked after with plenty of tea and brilliant sandwiches.
The Altamuskin Cup continues to grow in stature, and today’s event was another proud chapter in its story.
